Lunch Menu

At Nyhavns Færgekro, we serve classic Danish open-faced sandwiches (smørrebrød) and a variety of homemade herring specialties for lunch. You can also explore our unique aquavit selection – with up to 20 house-infused variations made from seasonal berries and herbs such as St. John's wort, sweet woodruff, and yarrow.


HERRING BUFFET

Enjoy 11 herring specialties served as a buffet. Help yourself as many times as you please — 185 kr. per person

Curry herring
Marinated herring filet bites in a sauce of homemade mayonnaise, creme fraiche, pepper, and curry.

Mustard herring
Marinated herring filet bites in a sauce of homemade mayonnaise, creme fraiche and dijon mustard.

Crown herring
Pickled herring filets with allspice, pepper, and bay leaves, red onion, freshly chopped dill, and sandalwood.

Dream herring
Herring filets in homemade mayonnaise with anchovies, onion, and Dijon mustard.

Onion herring
Matured herrings matured for a minimum of 6 months, which gives the herring a special texture and well-rounded flavour with freshly chopped onions.

Smoked herring
Whole smoked herrings. Often eaten with egg yolk as the open sandwich “Sol over Gudhjem”.

Matjes herring
The word matje comes from the Netherlands and means “virgin.” This type of herring is known for its small size, plump texture, and rich flavor.

Apple herring
Marinated herring filet bites in a sauce of homemade mayonnaise, creme fraiche, and apple cubes.

Fried herring
Warm marinated herring with dijon mustard and Kalles Kaviar fried with rye flour and butter.

Roll mops
Fresh herring filet poached in white wine and stuffed with Dijon mustard and dill.

On the buffet, you also find red onion, chives, onion, capers, radishes, rye bread, butter, and lard.


SNACKS

Snackboard — 185 kr.
Almonds, olives, Danish cheeses, serrano ham, chorizo, mini meatballs, mint & cucumber raita, and pickles. Served with organic bread and butter.

Green olives in homemade rosemary and garlic marinade — 55 kr.

Soya roasted almonds — 55 kr.

Mini meatballs with mint and cucumber raita — 55 kr.

French Fries — 75 kr.


LUNCH PLATTER

Nyhavns Færgekro Lunch Platter — 395 kr. per person
Must be ordered by at least 2 guests. Served in 1 serving, in small bowls on a platter with organic rye bread, farmers’ bread & butter.

Marinated herring fillets in small pieces, mixed in a homemade sauce of curry, mayonnaise, and creme fraiche.

Egg and shrimp with dill mayonnaise and lemon.

Smoked salmon topped with Danish “Vesterhavs” cheese, and red onion- & capers vinaigrette.

Crispy fried fillet of plaice served with remoulade and lemon.

Traditional Danish meatballs served with homemade potato salad, pickled red onions, and watercress.

Roastbeef topped with remoulade, roasted onions, cucumber salad, horseradish, and watercress.

Avocado — 110 kr.
Avocado served on butter-grilled farmers’ bread with a layer of smoked cheese cream, topped with olive oil and cress.

Potatoes — 120 kr.
New potatoes with mayonnaise, roasted onions, and bacon. Served on organic rye bread.

Fish

Miss Berg’s famous warm fish cakes from Gl. Skagen — 110 kr.
Served on organic rye bread with pickles and Danish ‘remoulade’.

Smoked salmon — 125 kr.
Smoked salmon topped with Danish “Vesterhavs” cheese, and red onion- & capers vinaigrette.

Dill-cured salmon — 125 kr.
Dill-marinated salmon served with a classic mustard dressing on organic sourdough bread.

Fillet of plaice with hand-peeled shrimps — 125 kr.
Fried fillet of plaice served with hand-peeled shrimp, dill mayonnaise, and dill on organic rye bread.

Fillet of plaice with Danish ‘remoulade’ — 115 kr.
Fried fillet of plaice served with Danish ‘remoulade’ and lemon on organic rye bread.

Egg and hand-peeled shrimp — 125 kr.
Egg and shrimp served on farmer’s bread with dill mayonnaise and lemon.

Meat

Chicken salad — 105 kr.
Delicate pieces of chicken tossed in a lightly creamy dressing with curry, crisp celery, fresh apples, and bacon. Served on organic sourdough bread.

Warm traditional Danish meatballs — 105 kr.
Traditional Danish meatballs served on organic rye bread with potato salad, pickled red onions, and cress.

Roastbeef — 105 kr.
Roast beef topped with remoulade, fried onions, pickles, horseradish, and watercress. Served on organic rye bread.

Cheese

Matured cheese — 95 kr.
Served on organic rye bread with stock jelly and onions - dashed with dark rum at the table.

Fried Camembert — 95 kr.
Served with grilled bread and homemade jam.


BURGER & SALAD

Færgekroens burger — 175 kr.
With beef patty, salad, tomatoes, pickles, and Færgekroens burger dressing. Served with French fries, ketchup, and homemade mayonnaise. Add on bacon & cheese for +15 kr.

Færgekroens portobello burger — 175 kr.
Grilled portobello mushroom marinated in garlic oil, salt, and pepper. Accompanied by French fries, ketchup, and homemade mayonnaise.

Salad with smoked salmon — 165 kr.
Mixed salad with smoked salmon, cucumber, radishes, and Færgekroens dressing.


DESSERTS

Traditional rhubarb trifle — 95 kr.
Homemade trifle with rhubarb compote served with whipped cream, vanilla cream, and macaroons.

Chocolate cake — 95 kr.
Our homemade chocolate cake is made of rich Belgian chocolate. Served with homemade vanilla ice cream, salted caramel, and crumble.

Cheese plate — 95 kr.
Three kinds of cheese served with compote of the day and crackers.

Petit fours — 65 kr.
